PolenmARkT e.V. Receives the Cultural Award of the District of Vorpommern-Greifswald 2025

It was with great joy and gratitude that polenmARkT e.V. received the 2025 Cultural Award of the district Vorpommern-Greifswald. At the prize-giving ceremony, Head of the District Authority Michael Sack honoured our association's many years of cross-border cultural work, which has now been helping to shape and enrich cultural life in the region for 28 years. This year's call for proposals for the Cultural Award was aimed at artistic projects, cultural initiatives, clubs, associations and individual artists who work across generations, create a local identity and at the same time have supra-regional appeal. polenmARkT e.V. fulfils these criteria in a special way. For almost three decades, polenmARkT has been a permanent fixture in the cultural calendar of Vorpommern-Greifswald. With several hundred events - including concerts, readings, exhibitions and discussion forums - we have brought people from Poland and Germany together: young and old, students, artists and citizens. This has created real cultural bridges - for example to Szczecin to the Philharmonic Orchestra, to the JUWENALIA student festival or, most recently, to the jazz festival in Misdroy. For us, these cross-border collaborations are an expression of lively European neighbourly relations.

We would like to thank the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald for this special honour - and all our colleagues, partners and supporters who have made this cultural work possible for so many years!

Greifswald Cultural Festival "Polenmarkt"

The Polish Cultural Days "polenmARkT" were launched in Greifswald in 1997 and have since developed into an annual ten-day festival held in November. What once began as a small cultural evening for international and German students to present the cultural diversity of Poland quickly expanded into a multi-faceted event.

PolenmARkT offers a rich programme featuring established artists and experts as well as up-and-coming talents. Visitors can expect a wide range of events in the fields of art, culture, language, music and history - always at the highest level. The festival also fosters political education as well as the intellectual and artistic interests of students.

Over the course of ten days, people of all ages and with different tastes can enjoy a wide variety of entertainment. Whether exhibitions, theatre performances, readings for children and adults, language crash courses, Polish cooking evenings, workshops or parties - the diverse programme offers something for everyone. Those who prefer a cosier atmosphere can look forward to relaxed concerts or club evenings. There are numerous opportunities to get involved and discover new cultural perspectives.

For students from Greifswald, polenmARkT also offers the chance to complete an exciting internship on site. The tasks are varied and allow a look behind the scenes of cultural management. The German-Polish festival also promotes exchanges between German and Polish students and artists, creating valuable intercultural connections.

With around 40 individual events every year, an impressive thematic and artistic diversity and a history spanning 27 years, polenmARkT is the largest festival of Polish culture and art outside Poland. It is unique to Germany and Europe and offers an incomparable platform for cultural dialogue and exchange year after year.
